An Instagram user recently uploaded a rather interesting shot of a still unannounced Asus phone to his profile. In all probability, it is the Zenfone 5 Lite. The general design & vertical, central camera alignment absolutely match, so it’s probably the “Lite” variant on display in the pic, rather than the regular Zenfone 5, as photographed in earlier renders.
The recently unearthed shot sadly gives little information on the device. If nothing else, the glossy glass back & Asus logo are evidently visible, so is the abovementioned dual camera setup – a new layout for the manufacturer. As for other observations, the rear-mounted fingerprint reader remains in its distinctive spot & there only appears to be a single camera LED flash. Though it is hard to tell from this angle. A fingerprint reader on the rear most likely means a lack of capacitive controls & a home button on the front, in favour of on-screen navigation. The frame appears to be metal & the oval shape of the port almost surely shows Type-C.
The Zenfone 5 Lite will have a new 18:9 display with Full HD+ resolution. The screen’s diagonal dimension might be around 5.7 & 6.0 inches. The number of cameras is said to total four – dual 16MP main cameras & dual front-facing 20MP cameras for selfies & portrait camera features like (I imagine) beauty mode & artificial bokeh.
Asus has already planned an event for February 25 at MWC 2018 in Barcelona, where the Zenfone 5 Lite will probably be unveiled, together with the regular Zenfone 5. Reports also hint of a Zenfone 5 Max variant, equipped with a massive battery. Though, we are yet to see any sight of it in the wild.
The event will hold at 19:30 CET & we hope to bring you reports on any & all announcements.
